# Your Business Has a Plan for Growth. Does Your Technology?

We're heading into the final quarter of the year.

Business leaders are looking at the numbers. Are we on track to hit our goals? What needs attention before year-end? And perhaps most importantly: **Where are we going next year and beyond?**

As those conversations happen, there’s one area I believe deserves a seat at the table: **technology.**

*Not technology for technology's sake.*

**Technology because it powers nearly every part of the business,** from how your people work and serve customers to the information leaders use to make decisions.

As you plan for what's next, here are three questions I'd encourage your leadership team to discuss:

**1. What does our 3–5 year business plan require us to do differently than we do today?**

As the business grows and changes, will our current processes, information and technology support where we're going—or will they become constraints?

**2. Does technology have a regular place in leadership's business reviews?**

Leadership routinely reviews financial performance, people and business priorities. Are technology performance, risks, investments and upcoming decisions reviewed with the same discipline?

**3. Does leadership have consistent reporting to measure progress against our business goals?**

Do leaders regularly review the same trusted measures—or does getting a clear picture require pulling information from multiple systems, spreadsheets and people?

These aren't questions for the IT department to answer alone.

**They're business questions.**

And as leaders plan for 2027, now is a good time to make sure technology isn't simply supporting the business you have today, but is intentionally preparing you for the business you're building next.

Over the next few weeks, I'll dig deeper into each of these three questions—why I ask it, what I've seen in businesses, and what leadership teams can do about it.

**Start with the first one: *What will your business need to do differently three to five years from now, and are you preparing for it today?***
